On the third floor of Taborian Hall, the AMR Construction crew is hard at work fortifying the area above the front of house (the stage, mezzanines, and front half of the ballroom floor) in the increasingly warm Dreamland Ballroom! As FlagandBanner.com employees will testify, the overhead noise sounds like the ballroom has been converted to a bowling alley. Scaffolding is being moved around so the old trusses and tin tiles that form a half story can become home to our new HVAC units that will be surrounded by a catwalk. This useful addition will also house future stage lighting and AV equipment.
A Clear View into the Future
Next week, we are meeting with members of the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program to hash out details of the window restoration. The elevator has been ordered. KONE (the company we are using for the elevator) will spend a few months putting the cab together before sending it to us to install. Progress feels good!
All Hands on Deck…
As we continue to move forward on the DBPAP (Dreamland Ballroom Public Access Project), we begin to plan for the future of Dreamland. As we consider the scope of what we want to accomplish, we are very aware that the Friends of Dreamland need your help! Volunteers are needed to help revamp and clean up the ballroom before we open to full capacity in a year, as well as help us coordinate an open house next fall or Dancing into Dreamland, when we reopen. New eyes and hearts on our Board of Directors can help us diversify the interests and impact of our small but passionate organization. And… of course...monetary donations of all sizes are greatly appreciated!
Keep Dreaming, Matthew McCoy
