01.27.2021 Happy New Year! In 2021, I will be launching themed capital campaigns and blogging monthly. If you have not been following our weekly eblasts, in January I have been covering some of our Dreams for Dreamland. While the building is still partially under construction and we continue to ride out this pandemic, these dreams set up some practical goals for the Friends of Dreamland. You can check them out HERE and dream with us.
Step by Step
The first goal is completing the public access project that has been in the works since early 2018 making the Dreamland Ballroom fully ADA compliant. With this in mind, we spent the first few weeks of January applying for some ACTUAL historic restoration. (Until now, most of the restoration has been done by Friends of Dreamland or Kerry McCoy…a little here, a little there.) This recent grant application was again to the National Parks Service, the same African American heritage grant we have received for the elevator and access initiative. This time, we applied for work to the front of house inside the ballroom, repair and replace hammered tin ceiling tiles, restore the historic stage apron and floors, plaster work around the stage proscenium, install the historic pendulum lights around the front of house, and a few touch ups here and there. We invite you to dream along with us (with your fingers crossed) as we wait to hear if the NPS will continue to help us jump start the return of the historic Dreamland Ballroom.
Keep Dreaming,
Matthew McCoy
